Spring Ephemerals and Wild Edibles

  • May 04, 2024
  • 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM (CST)
  • Forest Exploration Center

Explore the Forest Exploration Center blooming to life with a spring ephemerals hike and foraging experience. The FEC contains over 50 different plant species to possibly see, making every visit a new adventure!

Spring ephemeral flowers aren’t only beautiful to look at. They also have deep historical, cultural, and ecological significance. On this hike you’ll learn the history of the FEC, and how to identify spring ephemerals and their cultural and culinary uses. Your guide, Emma, will demonstrate safe and sustainable foraging of spring ephemeral flowers and provide guidance on how to taste-test foraged recipes.

Emma Czarnecki currently works as a project manager for Quercus Land Stewardship Services in DeForest, WI. She conducts ecological restoration through prescribed burning and weed management and heads the native landscaping department. She is excited to share her love of plant identification and culinary arts in this guided hike.
